SHRINE GETS OLD RELIC.

Tablet From One-Time Capitol Put In James Monroe Law Office.

Washington, May 2— Mrs. Harvey W. Wiley, Mrs. Rose Gouveneur Hoes and Mayor Jere H, Willis of Fredericksburg took part in an impressive ceremony at the James Monroe Law Office, in Fredericksburg, Va., last Sunday afternoon. The occasion was the official presentation by Mrs. Wiley. on behalf of the National Woman's Party, to the James Monroe Law Office, which has been turned into a museum by President Monroe's descendants, of the bronze tablet once affixed to the wall of the Old Brick Capitol in Washington, commemorating Presidcnt Monroe's inauguration there.

The Old Brick Capitol, it will be recalled, was given by Mrs. O. H. P. Belmont to the National Woman's Party as its headquarters. When the bullding was condemned and torn down by the United States Government in order to make a place for the Supreme Court Library, the bronze Monroe tablet was preserved by the party.

Mrs. Belmont suggested that it be presented to the James Monroe Office in Fredericksburg, and the National Council of the Woman's Party authorized the ceremony which took place on Sunday.

Woman's Party members trom Washington. Richmond, Baltlmore and other neighboring cities were in Fredericksburg for the occasion. After a luncheon at 1 o'clock they adojurned to the James Monroe Law Office at 2:30 to present the tablet.

It is interesting to note that President Monroe's induction into office began the custom of outdoor inaugurations. Up to that time Presidents had always been sworn in within four walls. Monroe's inauguration took place on the steps of the Old Brick Capitol, later to become the headquarters of the Woman's Party, at 21 First Street. N.E. March 4, 1817.
